In the Future, We Still Must Shop

This painting combines three elements: a store from Bridgeport, CA, a figure from another photo, and the General Motors 1956 Firebird II show car. I have reimagined this car as though it were an actual car, rather than a one-off prototype, showing the wear and tear of 60 years of use. A lot could be written about the metaphors involved, but I'll leave that for another day. Suffice it to say that the utopian future we were promised in the 1950s turned out to just prosaic. Rust never sleeps, and we still must shop.
